Island VIS - info
This green island with its fauna and pure nature is right place to relax. It’s one of the sunniest islands in Croatia. In the past the island was the strategic location so that is why it is not so crowded in the present. You will find here the peace of soul and hide against everyday-life stress. There are two famous fisher towns Vis and Komizu, only 14km close to each other. Even divers will find the island very interesting for them. Deeply under the sea-level they can discover beautiful sea-life and legends of lost ships. It is a very famous location for diving.
About the Island
The Island VIS is the most southern island of the Central Dalmatia where you can spend your vacation. There are two ways how to get to the Island. You can take a ferry /cca 2 hours/ or a speed-boat /cca 1.5 hour/ from the town Split. They transfer passengers with their cars and belongings on a regular basis. It is the Island of caves, beautiful beaches and spectacular views. From the land you can only see the silhouette of its highest mount called Hum with 587 meters above the see level.
The Island surroundings
This geologicly very interesting island is the Tenth largest island in Croatia. Small surrounding islands and cliffs make this island even more attractive. In the town of Vis and Komiza you can find many small restaurants and coffee-houses where you can enjoy a real sea-food specialities. Vis is famous even for its vineculture history. You can find many small original villages on the island. People living on the island are famous about their hospitality. You can fine many beautiful bays and beaches on the island, specially on the southern side of the island e.g. Rukavac, Stiniva, Milna, Srebrena, Stoncica. Right against the town of Komiza you can find a small island, which is wellk nown for its sand beaches but mostly for the world known Blue cave called Modra spilja, which is the only kind you can find. Another cave called Zelena spilja you can find on the island Ravnik.
